What to expect at your free hearing check.
All hearing checks are conducted by a qualified audiology professional. The total consultation takes 60 minutes. During this time we make you feel as comfortable as possible.
The main objectives of the hearing assessment are to pinpoint hearing loss, measure the severity and analyse your ability to hear and comprehend sounds. The assessment is made up of simple, non-invasive tests that include:
Hearing Test – you will be fitted with sound-calibrated headsets or earphones. A series of simple tones will play and you simply respond by pressing a button.
Speech Discrimination Test – you are asked to repeat words heard through headsets or earphones.
Tympanometry Test (also known as a middle ear test) – a quick objective test. A small plug is placed in your ear to examine the middle ear and how well your ear drum moves. It allows your clinician to evaluate the function of the eustachian tube, upper auditory pathways and reflex contraction of your middle ear muscles.
